Lancashire Moth Atlas (Online)

Improving access to invertebrate data and recording resources is a key aim of the Tanyptera Project. By supporting the production of invertebrate publications, we help make specialist knowledge and records more accessible, supporting future recording, research and conservation.

In 2020/21 Tanyptera Project worked with moth experts Stephen Palmer and Richard Walker (VC59 Macro moth recorder) to create an online Lancashire Moth Atlas (Palmer et al., 2021). The downloadable PDF contains tetrad (2 km) resolution maps for all 1,523 moth species known to have been recorded in VC59 (South Lancashire) and VC60 (West Lancashire) up to 2019, split into β€˜Pre 2000’ and β€˜2000-2019’ date classes. El-Moustafa Eweda was commissioned by the project to analyse the data, as well as design and produce the distribution maps. On 10th November 2018, the project jointly ran a Moth Dissection workshop tutored by John Girdley at Leighton Moss, North Lancashire. Due to demand, this was repeated on 18th January 2020 at World Museum.
